THERE'S MORE TO 20/20 THAN MEETS THE EYE

Since the 1800's, doctors have measured vision using the standard eye charts. Your vision is considered normal if you can identify the letters in the 20/20 line from a distance of 20 feet. If you cannot, you are typically diagnosed with a combination of common vision disorders: nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism, collectively known as lower order optical aberrations or distortions. They are usually corrected using glasses, contacts or traditional laser surgery.

Quality vs. Quantity of Vision
Correcting lower order distortions may not totally address your visual quality. It is possible to read the 20/20 line on a vision test and yet have trouble seeing clearly in low-light conditions. Higher order distortions may exist in your eyes that can cause glare, halos and other annoying visual effects.

Unless these higher order distortions are treated along with lower order aberrations, the quality of your vision may not be ideal. Even if you have measurable vision of 20/20.

Wavefront Technology
Now, thanks to a new technology known as wavefront analysis, we can measure and address visual disorders that previously could not even be detected. A measuring device captures the distortions found and sends the data to the laser to individually customize the treatment.

How It Works
First, flat waves of light are passed through your eye using the wavefront analyzer (aberrometer). As the waves exit your eye, the aberrometer compares them to an ideal wavefront, which is perfectly flat, indicating the absence of distortions.

Next, a 3D map is generated representing your unique visual distortions, including both lower and higher order distortions. This map becomes the guide for the laser, telling it precisely where to reshape your cornea to correct your vision.
