"It is a pleasure
hearing from our patients." Here are a few recent letters.
September 20, 2006
Dear Drs Gordon, Binder, Weiss and Geffen,
I recently had eye surgery by Dr. Weiss and thought the experience was so superior, that it deserves comment. I have been a patient of Dr. Binder for more than 25 years--ever since an optomatrist many years ago told me I had "something" wrong with my eyes that he could not fix. I believe he recommended Dr Binder as a corneal specialist. I saw Dr Binder for several years and he somehow, with his competance and professionalism, convinced me to trust him to do a 'terrifying" corneal transplant. I continued to see him annually for glasses and two surgeries. As you grew, he turned me over to Dr. Geffen, who, over the years with great skill and patience has fitted me with more optics than I can remember.
Now in 2006 I have had my third corneal transplant by Dr. Weiss. Your people and your service has always been wonderful, but this time I have to comment on the superiority of your entire 'team'--from the woman who answers your phone, your assistants, your intake people at the hospital and opticians. But there are several who I would like to comment on individually.
Kendra did all the the prep/paper work to schedule the sugery and took care of all the insurance, making that all very painless and simple.Your intake nurse at the hospital (I can't remember her name, she was Phillipino) was especially effecient, kind and reassuring. Susan was in the operating room and a couple of words of encouragment and gentle touchs on my cheek were more comforting than I can say to a very nervous patient--a very compassionate way to say she understood. Dr. Weiss, you have "good hands" as my eye is very comfortable and well.
Then, of course, there is Karla--one of my favorite reasons to go into Dr. Geffen's office, who actually DROVE to Vista to pick up my glasses that were not going to be ready so I would not be completely 'blind' all weekend. (for which I think she should receive a huge raise :)!
I believe that that kind of attitude, professionalism, competence and kindness starts at the top of your organization and I want to thank you again--you have retained a wonderful group of people and looking at it from my patient perspective, it makes a difficult experience pleasant. In fact, I almost am looking forward to my next corneal transplant.
Most Sincerely,
Lana E Nimmo

Dear Doctor Binder:
I would like to express my most sincere gratitude for everything you and your staff did for me. I received the waiver from the Navy for my eyes, and I will be attending naval officer candidate school within a few months.
First, I am extremely satisfied with the outcome of my surgeries. Despite the high degree of myopia I had before the surgery, I am now able to see slightly better than 20/20. Also, I am glad that you recommended PRK surgery instead of LASIK. The Navy has always been in favor of PM and considering the degree of my myopia and pre-op cornea thickness, they might not have given me the waiver for my eyes if I had gotten LASIK.
Although my post-op vision was superb, since my myopia before the surgery was so bad, the Navy seemed to be somewhat reluctant to give me the waiver. However, you not only prepared the complete surgery report on April 2$, 2005, but you also helped me with extra post-operation tests on November 15, 2005 and the additional post-operation surgery report. Thanks to your help, I received the waiver I needed to be selected for officer candidate school.
I chose you as my surgeon because of your reputation of being the best surgeon in San Diego. However, I also would like to add that your comprehensive post-operation checkups and staff's courtesy was the best of all LASIK experiences that I have heard. I already recommended you to one of my friends, and if someone ask me for recommendation in the future, I will definitely recommend you again.
Sincerely,
Thomas Drake Miyano
Dear Dr. Binder,
Congratulations and thank you for the amazing results for Jonathan’s Refractive Implant’s (RI) surgery.
First, many thanks for the successful results of Jonathan’s RI surgery. Please know it is not just a corrective surgery for us, it is a gift of clear vision without the encumbrance of glasses and/or contact lenses for Jonathan. As for me, it is an alleviation of a mother’s worry. I breathe a little easier each day knowing that Jonathan will be able to be of quick response in case of emergency. Your impeccable talents and your throughout informative dialogues on both pre and post-op are of the highest standard. Thank you.
Please accept my congratulation for having amazing staff. From the receptionist and the patient counselor to the surgical nurses, the team is a perfect example of a well-run office equipped with competent, happy, and courteous professionals. Please kindly give my highest commendations to Lisa Nichole, Susie, Nicole, Linda, Leticia, and Shannon along with my thanks. They did not just simply perform their job’s description; they showed that they care about their patient. Thanks so much.
While I may not accompany Jonathan on his future following up appointments, please know that I am grateful for all you do.
Sincerely yours,
Suzanne Tran
PS: I am also grateful that we live only 90 miles from your office. I would have gladly driven across the country for the result.
Dear Dr. Weiss,
I write to express my gratitude and admiration for the extraordinary
care you have provided. Your expertise and attention have been very
superb and comforting. You have my external thanks.
Warm Thoughts,
Lee Greenwald
Dear Michelle Stephens,
I am a miracle!
I am writing to you so that you will be aware of, and recognize
one of the most wonderful eye surgeons in California, Dr. Jack L.
Weiss.
I am a woman in my late 50's that has worn coke bottle glasses
all of my life. Even as late as two weeks before my surgery, people
still made fun of me and laughed about my thick glasses.
I had the pleasure of being introduced to this wonderful doctor, Jack L. Weiss of Gordon Binder Weiss Vision Institute, La Jolla, California. Dr. Weiss performed clear lens extractions on both of my eyes. On my left eye he performed a piggyback lens operation, which gave me two lenses required for my correction. Now that I am nearing the end of my life I am no longer laughed at nor do people stare at me in wonderment of my thick glasses. I can read, walk, and even drive without glasses. I am a very happy person.
Dr. Weiss is simply the best. His confidence in himself, his knowledge
of which procedures would be beneficial for me, and calming patience
with my questions and concerns, gave me the confidence I needed
to have these procedures done at my age.
I hope my letter will encourage your institute to recognize Dr.
Weiss as, in my opinion, the very best in his field.
Sincerely,
Cathy D. Lyon
Dear Dr. Gordon,
In The Beginning When God Scattered Stars Into Space, He Planned
Treasures For Us To Discover, Like Love, Life, And People Like You.
It has been 17 days since my second surgery and Im still
so amazed at the results. Exactly 7 days after, I went to renew
my drivers license. I was delighted when I passed the eye
test and no longer will my drivers license read, (rstr corr
lens)
The street lights, car lights etc., no longer blind me. I see as
clear as ever and can read the smallest of print. The occasional
blurring that I experience in the morning when I awake seems to
go away almost as soon as I put in some artificial tears. I think
of it as washing my eyes every morning, just as I do my teeth. On
rare occasions I use the small magnified glasses to read a label
on a bottle. At age 69, Im a Happy Camper!
God Bless You and thank You,
Youre the Greatest!

Dear Dr. Binder:
I wanted to take a minute to thank you again for helping me to
eliminate the eyeglasses and/or contact lenses I have worn for the
past 39 years. This was a 50th birthday present to myself and was
probably the best thing I could have done.
Prior to selecting you for the surgery, I visited four other surgeons
in San Diego and felt that you and your office were the most experienced
and professional of any I met. After all, we only get one set of
eyes so this is a very important decision with permanent repercussions
if things do not go well because we make a poor choice.
What a pleasure it was to see clearly immediately after you completed
your magic. My vision prior to surgery was 20/800 and 20/20 at my
post-op visit less that twenty-four hours later! Making an incredible
experience even better was the fact that I felt no pain during the
procedure and only very minor and temporary irritation the night
following the surgery that was completely gone the next morning.
Additionally, I really appreciated the way you handled my case of
the jitters.
The strangest thing is that I have this urge to remove my contact
lenses before going to bed, and I havent worn them for five
years! I guess my brain still cant believe I can see without
help.
I have already recommended you to several of my family members
and friends because there is no reason they shouldnt enjoy
this kind of freedom also. Again, my heartfelt thanks
to you and all of your staff for the fine work.
Very truly yours,
Rick Ungar
Dear Dr. Binder,
I wanted to thank you for the miracle of 20/20 vision that you
gave me six months ago. I take my new vision for granted most of
the time, but once in awhile I stop and thank you for everything
that you have done.
I am so happy to not have to put in my contacts each morning or
wear glasses after 17 years. No more hassles, ever!
Most of all, I am proud to have had my surgery done by one of the
most highly acclaimed eye surgeons. I brag about you to everyone.
Thank you forever for helping me see clearly again.
Regards,
Linda Tyer
Dear Dr. Gordon:
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you and your wonderful
staff for the excellent service I received at your laser center.
I found your staff to be extremely helpful, friendly and very professional.
I want to thank you, especially, for giving me back my sight. For
23 years I couldnt see. I still have to remind myself I dont
need to remove my contact lenses. Old habits die hard! The LASIK
surgery proved to be virtually painless.
To be able to see clearly when I wake up in the morning is the
most awesome experience of each day. No more hassles with contact
lenses and eyeglasses! What a joy!
I have told many people about your laser center. I hope some of
them come to you for this remarkable service that you provide. You
are wonderful and gifted. Again, thank you from the bottom of my
heart for one of the greatest gifts of all: eyesight.
With much appreciation,
Anne K. Parker
P.S. My husband came to you last year for PRK. Hes very
happy, too, with his clear eyesight!
Dear Dr. Gordon,
For the past several years I havent been able to enjoy the
glorious view from my home. Thanks to you, I can enjoy it everyday!
It is a miracle! I feel like a child that has just learned to read.
I point out sights and signs in the distance with amazement and
appreciation. Thank you very , very much for restoring a precious
gift.

To All Of You
How can anyone thank you enough for returning the gift of sight?
I cannot believe I can see with my very own eyes again!!
Thanks to all of you, from the wonderful reception area folks,
to Tiffany who started measuring my vision, to Matt, the Pill Man(!)
to the surgical technician who held my hand, and of course to Dr.
Binder, youre the best!!
Many, many thanks!

To Dr. Gordon
I wanted to write to thank you all so much. What a terrific staff you have over there. I was terrified going into this, but everyone worked so hard to make this experience as comfortable as possible. Turns out that my fears far exceeded the reality. There was little to no discomfort at all. This is my second day and I have no pain what so ever. I have no dryness and most of all my vision is extraordinary.
My experience with the Gordon Binder Institute was really fantastic. I would strongly recommend you to anyone interested in corrective eye procedures
Of course the bottom line is the outcome of the surgery. It has exceeded my most hopeful expectations. I have worn glasses since I was 5 years old. My vision has always been very poor. I don’t think in my heart I thought it could really work. All I keep saying to everyone is that this is a miracle. The quality of my vision is amazing. Everything is crisp and clear. I can’t put into words how incredible this is for me. It’s not like me to write or go on like this, but I am so happy I feel compelled to.
To all of you at Gordon Binder, I thank you so much.
God Bless,
Julie Bard
